Sugar is the primary food source for ants. Many foods and beverages contain sugar, which is a blight on our health. Their favorite foods and drinks include those laced with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). The ants benefit greatly from food crumbs and spills.

Why are ants attracted to sugar?

Several types of ants are drawn to sugary foods because they contain high levels of carbohydrates. Because they don’t contain these carbohydrates, artificial sweeteners don’t attract ants.
