Are baby wipes safe for cats?
John Campbell
Baby wipes are not safe for cats. They contain harmful chemicals designed for cleaning cats. They contain chemicals that are harmful to the feline race. I won’t tell you not to use them because it is obviously something your cat will do on its own, but be aware of these risks before using baby wipes.
Cats can contract an illness known as ‘fur acne’ by using baby wipes. If your cat has fur acne it will be painful and requires time to go away. You can speed up the healing by applying antibacterial cream specially formulated for cats. Another reason not to use baby wipes on your cat is that they tend to lick themselves after using baby wipes which can cause them pain. If this happens contact a vet immediately.
They can also get a fatal illness from baby wipes. The symptoms of this include being very itchy and scratching a lot which may cause sores to develop on the outside or inside of your cat. This is a direct result of people using baby wipes to clean their cats. Be aware that if you have an indoor cat it has a higher chance of getting sick from using baby wipes.
Using baby wipes may also cause your cat to scratch furniture and other items in the home. If you use baby wipes make sure it has no harmful chemicals on them or your cat can develop a habit of scratching everything it sees.
Cats should only be cleaned with specialized feline soaps and water. If you are using baby wipes on your cat to deep clean it use them sparingly because too much can lead to health issues for your cat.
Using baby wipes is the easy way out of cleaning your cat but not the best option overall. It may also cause urinary issues if used frequently. This means that baby wipes aren’t safe for cats.
The verdict is that baby wipes can be used on your cat but should only be used sparingly and with great care. Be mindful of the risks associated with using any product like this on your pet before you make your decision.
