Are Metal Fans Cooler Than Plastic?

Writer Gabriel Cooper

Fans are great, especially in the summer. But there’s a big debate over which type of fan is better: plastic or metal? Let’s take a look at some facts about each kind of fan to help you make your decision.

Metal fans are more durable than plastic fans.

You’ll never have to worry about the blades breaking or the fan motor dying out with a metal fan. Metal fans can last many years without needing repairs or replacement parts, making them much more durable than plastic fans that need regular maintenance and may only last a few years before they break down completely.

Plastic fans are more affordable than metal fans.

Plastic fans are the cheapest choice, but they’re also less effective. This is because plastic simply doesn’t move as much air as metal. This makes sense when you consider that metal is a better conductor than plastic and therefore moves heat more quickly.

Since metal fans are more expensive than plastic ones, it might seem an obvious choice if you’re looking for maximum cooling power at a minimum price point. Still, there’s another factor to consider: durability. Since metal can bend before breaking (unlike glass), it will last longer than a broken plastic fan blade in your ceiling fan!

Metal fan blades can be noisy compared to plastic.

Metal fans are noisier than plastic fans. I love the look of a shiny, beautiful metal ceiling fan, but they can be louder, especially compared to plastic versions. The blades on metal fans have more blades and are heavier than those on plastic fans, meaning they’re moving faster through the air for extended periods. This produces more friction between the blade and the surrounding air molecules, causing them to make noise.

Metal blades are less prone to breaking than plastic fan blades.

Metal fan blades are much less likely to break or crack when compared to their plastic counterparts. This means that you’ll get higher performance from your metal fan, which will last longer and give off a higher airflow quality.

Plastic is a better insulator than metal.

Metal is a better conductor of heat than plastic. However, plastic is also an excellent insulator; it does not conduct heat as well as metal because it has more boundaries between the material and its surroundings.

Conclusion

Now you know the differences between plastic and metal fans. Metal fans are more durable, but they’re noisier, and plastic fans are cheaper, but they often break. So which fan is more remarkable, it depends on what a person prefers.
