You can put a box spring on the floor without any problem. It may even be better for your mattress’s ventilation than if you left it on the ground.

What do box springs sit on?

For the most part, box springs are designed to be placed on top of a bed frame. An alternative support system is the foundation, which is usually made up of wooden slats or solid frames.

Does a box spring need to be elevated?

Your mattress and box spring are better protected from cold drafts in the winter thanks to bed frames. Moisture, mold, bedbugs, and other vermin can’t get to your bedding if it’s at a higher altitude.

What do you put under a box spring?

To raise the height of a box spring, bunkie boards and plywood can be used, as previously mentioned. It is possible to raise a mattress without a box spring by using bunkie boards, plywood, or other mattress support.

Can you sleep on a box spring without a mattress?

Aside from some of the more modern options for mattress support, box springs are still a viable option. As long as there is some sort of support beneath the mattress, not having a box spring isn’t necessarily a bad thing. A platform bed, foundation, or the floor can provide this support.

Do you need a frame under a box spring?

It’s not always necessary to use a box spring. Box springs necessitate the use of a separate bed frame, and this should never be overlooked (in most cases). For a basic metal bed frame with just one or two center support bars, you’ll need a box spring to complete the set.
