There are even lawyers out there who are claiming that there is immunity for postal workers as it pertains to traffic fines. However, this kind of bold claim is just making drivers ignore traffic laws and do whatever they feel like. There really is no reason for a mail truck driver to intentionally run a red light.

Let’s face it, sometimes people run red lights accidentally when driving. Perhaps, they think that they can beat the light, but they end up going through a red light instead. This does happen on a regular basis. However, it does not justify running a red light by any stretch of the imagination.

If you do decide to run a red light as a mail truck driver, then you can expect to be busted by the cops and face fees and fines, and tickets as well. All of these things will negatively affect your license. So, mail truck drivers definitely don’t have any reason to run a red light.

The only vehicles that are allowed to run a red light are ambulances and fire and rescue trucks. Also, the same goes for police and other law-enforcement agencies. If it’s an emergency, then they can go through a red light. However, this does not apply to the Postal Service workers or mail truck drivers at all.

In fact, according to the Postal Service, its employees must follow all traffic rules and laws while they are driving a Postal Service vehicle. So, this does not mean that they get to break the law and do as they feel.

Keep in mind that postal trucks do have cameras, so your activity will be recorded in case you do run a red light or commit some serious offense while operating the vehicle. At the same time, most postal trucks are able to park in certain areas where regular cars would not be able to park. This is usually fine as long as you’re not blocking intersections. This is why you see UPS and FedEx trucks park in certain places that other cars can’t park.

This kind of thing happening accidentally is one thing, however, doing it intentionally is something that you don’t want to do. If you notice that mail truck drivers are doing this, then they are definitely in the wrong and will have to deal with the consequences of the law if they are caught.
