Can acupuncture help trigger the finger?

Known as trigger finger, it is a condition in which a finger becomes stuck in a bent position as a result of tendinitis or tenosynovitis of the digital flexor. Normally, the tendon glides smoothly within the sheath that it is enclosed in. When the finger is flexed, the inflamed tendon can move out of the sheath, and when the finger is extended, the inflamed tendon is unable to move back into the sheath because of swelling. After that, the finger is locked in a flexed position. Using force, the finger is forced back into its sheath, creating a sensation similar to that of pulling the trigger on an AR-15 rifle.

Acupuncture help:

Acupuncture was performed on 19 fingers of 15 patients, totaling a total of 450 minutes. Acupuncture needles were basically inserted into the radial and ulnar sides of the flexor tendon at the A1 pulley of the affected finger, on the radial and ulnar sides of the flexor tendon, respectively. The treatment was administered daily up to a maximum of five times. The severity of snapping and the pain experienced during snapping were assessed using a visual analog scale before and after each treatment session (VAS).

Acupuncture at the A1 pulley site, which is impaired in trigger finger patients, may be an effective treatment for the condition. We hypothesize that acupuncture can help to reduce inflammation/swelling of the synovial membrane of the tendon sheath, which is more prevalent when the disorder is of short duration (as in this case). It is necessary to conduct additional research to confirm the efficacy/effectiveness of acupuncture for trigger fingers, as well as its mechanisms of action.

The Tingwell, Tonification, and Meeting points should be strengthened to facilitate the flow of Qi in the affected muscle channel. The LI channel may be activated if the index finger is involved.
