Goldfish are cold-water fish that should not be kept in a tank with other aquatic animals. However, it is possible that the African dwarf frog could make an excellent tank companion to your goldfish if the tank is big enough and you keep the water well. Most species of frogs are found spending large periods of time in the water.

This means they are poor tankmates for goldfish since goldfish require a complete enclosure. Frogs have different requirements in terms of temperature in comparison to goldfish. Some species of frogs can increase in size significantly over goldfish and rely on the goldfish as their primary food source. Frogs with large sizes, frogs that require the land and require extreme temperatures should not be housed in the same tank as goldfish.

This eliminates a lot of species of frogs that could be tankmates. African dwarf frogs can be described as tiny fully aquatic frogs which are gentle and small enough to fit in with goldfish. Like goldfish, they require special care and plenty of space. So, don’t get these frogs simply because you’re looking to change the appearance of your aquarium. If you take care of them, however, African dwarf frogs can comfortably coexist peacefully with goldfish.

African dwarf frogs like temperatures between 70 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit. On the contrary, goldfish are accustomed to temperatures of 65 and 75 degrees. In order to keep the two species together, you need to maintain the tank to a temperature of around 70 degrees.

Both species require plenty of space. In smaller enclosures, they could argue with each other, and the ammonia released by both species could harm one. Set aside a minimum of 10 gallons of water per frog or fish and put in an aerator to get rid of the waste. Take out about 10 percent of the water every week, and then change all the water if it starts to become dark or smelly.
