Can I work out after dry needling?

You can work out after dry needling but it is advised to wait 24-48 hours before working out. You can do light cardio and stretches until then. It is important to follow the aftercare guidelines provided by your practitioner for best results! Hope this helps!

Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing AroundAfter about 2 to 3 weeks you can tell if the dry needling is working for you by how much better your range of motion and flexibility has gotten. It also helps if your muscle spasms and twitching have decreased. You should be feeling less pain as well. Your practitioner will use this data to determine if the dry needling is working for you and decide whether or not to continue. It takes time so be patient!
Also, if you get dry needling and think it did nothing for you, make sure to give it at least a full month! Dry needling takes time so often times we don’t see immediate changes in pain levels.
So why is dry needling successful? When the needle hits that trigger point and the muscle contracts… the needle stimulating the muscle has the most profound effect. In my opinion, this is what makes dry needling so successful. It also works great for pain relief and scar tissue break-up.
In the past, trigger points were diagnosed by finding a point of tenderness. Many would compare this to a doctor saying “oh you have tendonitis because x-ray shows inflammation”. The dry needle was able to prove that there is much more than just inflammation at work. There are actually spasms in connective tissue and muscles that can lead to more problems and pain.
The important thing about dry needling is that the patient must be taught how to relax those tight muscles by doing some simple stretches and exercises during the session and after. This leads to less pain, a better range of motion and a happier life! This is what I love best about this treatment. So many come in looking for pain relief and they get it!
