Can Snakes Be Hypnotized? - Kylon Powell

How do snakes get hypnotized?

Using an instrument called a pungi, a snake charmer pretends to hypnotize a snake by playing it and waving it around.

Do snakes get hypnotized by music?

No. The charmer’s pungi, a gourd-carved reed instrument, has nothing to do with the music and everything to do with the snake’s reaction to the charmer waving it in its face. External ears don’t exist for snakes, so they can only hear low-frequency rumbles.

Which animal can hypnotize?

Although some animals are easier to hypnotize than others, most animals can be hypnotized. Although chickens are the easiest animals to hypnotize, other animals like cats, dogs, horses, and cows have also been utilized. It’s best to begin with an easy hypnosis topic.

To the music of the pipe charmer, snakes writhe and dance; in the wild, they fixate on prey with unwavering gazes, as if they were themselves the pipe charmers. Witnesses say cobras appear to have hypnotized their prey into submission, but scientists say that’s not what’s happening.

Do snakes like being pet?

Snakes won’t be receptive to your affection—they’re wary animals who don’t like being held, touched, petted, or passed around. It’s stressful for them and puts them at risk of illness and injury, and because they don’t whine or yelp, you may not realize that they’re hurt.

Do snakes like vibration?

Snakes are frequently described in both popular and technical literature as either deaf or able to perceive only groundborne vibrations. Physiological studies have shown that snakes are actually most sensitive to airborne vibrations.

Can snakes see?

With the exception of a few species that have adapted to daytime hunting, most snakes do not see well. Generally they can see shapes but not details. This poor eyesight probably owes to their evolutionary history as burrowers, living in the dark where eyes weren’t much use.
