In spite of their incredible sense of smell, snakes cannot detect fear. A person or prey’s body language can be deciphered by them, but their emotions cannot be deciphered. The snake may interpret fearful body language as aggression.

Do snakes know when you are scared?

Snakes are not capable of sensing human anxiety. The sense of smell that snakes possess means that they may be able to tell the difference between a calm and a frightened human. If a snake senses an imminent threat from an unpredictable human movement, it will not respond to human fear.
