Can you eat Candy with braces?
Rachel Davis
Dental braces are a bane to many as they make eating around them awkward as well as uncomfortable. But what about those medically necessary ones? Is there any candy you should avoid when breaking them in? The simple answer is yes, there are different types of candy that you shouldn’t eat with your Braces on.

Also, a lot of candy has small particles which can get stuck up next to or between your teeth or between the wires on the Brace itself. Some of these do require some serious removing under a dentist’s supervision but others are quite easy to remove when they get stuck.
Hard Candies:
Most hard candies are not to be used when you have braces for the simple reason that they can chip off small pieces of your braces, which will require multiple dentist visits and a lot of money (which could’ve been saved if you had avoided it in the first place). Candies like Jolly Ranchers, Sweet Tarts, Laffy Taffy are highly discouraged with braces.
Candy Canes:
Most candy canes are okay with braces if you have them chewed properly. But most people don’t chew them enough so most of the time it’s best to avoid candy canes when you have your braces on.
Chocolate:
It’s best to avoid chocolate with your Braces. It is difficult to chew off properly and there is a high chance that you will swallow it, which will lead to more dentist visits as the sugar from the chocolate can leave stains on your teeth for some time.
Lollipops:
Lollipops are the best kind of hard candy to eat with your Braces as long as they’re on a stick. It is difficult for them to chip off and the stick serves as an added protection from direct contact with your braces.
Gum:
Do not chew on any type of gum with Braces on. Not only will it be uncomfortable, even painful for a lot of people, there’s also a chance you might swallow some if you have your Braces off.
