Can You Eat Frog Legs During Lent?
David Wilson
The positive news for those who follow Lent, the good news is that frog can be considered regulated food items … that sort of taste similar to chicken. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has given amphibians and reptiles the blessing to use as Lenten food items due to their blood-sucking nature. Lent is an official religious holiday within the Christian liturgical calendar that commemorates forty days Jesus was fasting in the desert in accordance with scriptures from the Gospels that are written by Matthew, Mark and Luke prior to beginning his public ministry, in which he was tempted by Satan. Frog legs aren’t considered meat, but they are considered fish in the same way as the alligator and turtle. The current canon law permits eating broths, stocks and fats as well as sauces made from animals on Lenten fasting and abstinence day.
There are even possible pieces of meat that could be used in sauces and bacon grease. Frogs are said to be like something that is a mix of chicken and fish. They actually taste of frogs: that is, they taste very little, if you exclude the sauce they’re served with. Other people employ “meat” to refer exclusively to the flesh of fur-covered mammals which excludes other animals such as chickens and fish. Frogs are typically skinned and then have their snouts, and rear legs cut off using knives or scissors even though they are alive. The torsos of the frogs are then tossed into the midst of other bleeding frogs, and they suffer an agonizing, slow death. Inhumane methods involving spears, hooks, and nets are also employed to take wild frogs. The only way legs of frogs aren’t safe to consume is if you eat the wrong types of frogs. If you’re out in the wild and simply picking frogs randomly to eat, then you might become sick and possibly be killed based on where you are looking for frogs. When you are in the French or other people consume the legs of frogs, they simply take the legs. The remainder of the frog’s body is the rib cage as well as the abdomen. It’s just a pile of junk that spoils and has no meat to consume. You are free to eat, but there is nothing to eat.
