Can You Eat Ice With Dentures?
Caleb Butler
People chew ice for a variety of reasons, including dry mouth relief, stress reduction, quitting smoking, passing the time, and weight loss. Even though you could chew ice with your dentures, it’s best for you not to do so because you could end up damaging your dentures.

If you’re a fan of ice, you’ll probably enjoy the experience despite your roommate or close friends finding the crunching noise annoying. For this, it’s essential to avoid chewing on frozen foods. This can lead to tooth decomposition and gum disease.
When exposed to forces such as chewing ice, teeth become brittle despite being made of the body’s hardest material. As hard as a porcelain plate, the tooth has a series of small fractures running the length of its surface. Chewing ice repeatedly can wear down your teeth in this way.
Even if the fractures aren’t visible at first, they’ll be easy to see under magnification and bright lights. Thanks to tissues and structures under the tooth, the force generated by chewing can be dispersed evenly. However, when the enamel’s resiliency is tested, you run the risk of chipping a small portion of the tooth or, even worse, fracturing the tooth irreparably.
Even if you’re not a big fan of ice, all it takes is one good bite to snap your tooth in half. Some breaks are so bad that they can cause a fracture all the way to the tooth root, even if a dentist repairs it with filling material or a crown (for significant damages). If this takes place, it would then be important to remove the tooth.
Unlike other addictions, ice munching has no negative impact on your health. Damage to one’s teeth is virtually unavoidable due to trauma, decay, and wear and tear on fillings and crowns. This could result in sore jaw muscles.
