Can you roller skate in the rain?

Writer Gabriel Cooper

Yes, you can roller skate in the rain. Once upon a time, I’ll bet you didn’t think about what would happen if it was snowy and icy outdoors and the urge to go roller skating struck you.

But now we realize that we can’t always predict weather conditions and we need to know ahead of time whether or not our equipment will work properly. So, are you prepared to roller skate in the rain?

Well, you can do this because skates are designed to be functional. Usually, they have blades that just need to be lubricated before use. Things get a little more complicated when it comes to boots, but I’m sure you will find them comfortable one way or another.

So let’s say you’ve found an old pair of boots and laced them up tight – what next? The best thing is to test whether your skates are working properly by skating forward, backward, jumping over small obstacles, etc. You’ll also want to check if there is enough room for your feet while wearing thick socks, which usually isn’t an issue unless the boots are really loose at the heel. But what if it’s raining?

The rain shouldn’t be a problem – most skating rinks are indoors anyway. However, I do recommend that you go prepared in case nature decides to surprise you. An umbrella or two will certainly come in handy, but most importantly you will want to wear the right clothes. Wear layers so they can either be taken off or put on depending on how hot it is inside! Also, make sure your skates are well-lubricated and ready to use before braving the outdoors.

The recap is that you can roller skate in the rain if you are well prepared. Make sure your equipment is working properly and that you have the right clothing for all weather conditions. And don’t forget your umbrella!
