Can water lines go through floor joists?

Drainpipe running through joists necessitates meticulous attention to detail. To ensure a 1/4-inch-per-foot slope, the holes must run parallel to the floor and either ascend or descend. A 3/8-inch difference in height between holes should be expected if joists are spaced 16 inches apart and pipes are run across them at a right angle.

How do you support PEX between joists?

At least every six feet if supported by beams and runs across them, fasten the tubing at intervals of 32 inches or more, according to industry standards. Using plastic straps and hangers is preferred, but metal supports made for plastic tubing can be used as well.

Where should you not use PEX?

PEX can’t be installed in areas where the temperature frequently exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit.PEX cannot be installed near recessed lighting or other sources of high heat. Since PEX cannot be connected directly to a hot water heater, a connecting material must be used instead.

Can you drill holes in floor joists?

Hole spacing should not be greater than 2 inches on either side of the edge. A maximum of 2 inches between any two holes or notch is permitted. In the middle third of the joist, no notches are allowed, but holes are allowed here. Deeper than one-sixth of the joist thickness is permitted.

Does drilling holes in joists weaken them?

How to avoid weakening the joist by placing holes in the wrong places. If you follow the rules, you can safely drill electrical and plumbing runs through joists without weakening the joists.

Is it OK to notch a floor joist?

You should always allow at least twice the diameter of the largest hole to separate adjacent holes when designing a grid of holes. Also, notching a joist at the top rather than the bottom weakens it less, and holes (and notches) should not be placed near loose knots.
