Can you wash a blanket filled with rice?

It’s important to know what kind of filling is used in the blanket because fillers like sand, rice and beans should not be washed. While washing and drying glass beads and steel shot beads with warm water is generally safe, plastic poly pellets can melt and should only be washed and dried on low heat.

Why can’t you put a weighted blanket in the washer?

Using a machine to dry or wash a weighted blanket filled with poly pellets or plastic beads could cause the plastic inside to melt. Wool blankets, in particular, should not be subjected to the harsh washing and drying cycles of a machine.
