Can You Wear High Heels After Bunion Surgery?

The bunion develops due to a steady shift in the location of the bones that form the large toe. It causes the bones to appear more prominent in the inner part of the toe’s big part. It’s not an actual “growth” or callus. One of the most important worries of women who have bunions on their feet and are contemplating the procedure is whether or not you’ll be allowed to wear heels once you have had surgery. The majority of the time, there is yes…and far more comfortably than before the surgery! The alignment of your toes allows for more motion, and the posture that high heels force you into won’t cause the joint to become jammed. There are instances however when the joint might be been damaged to the point that even after surgery there is only a limited range of motion in the area around it. There are other procedures that can make the joint stiffer and restrict its mobility. These conditions will restrict the heel heights and shoes which may be comfortable for you. The best method to relieve discomfort from a bunion is to avoid footwear that makes the pain more severe. Most shoes that are wide on the tops of the feet or with open toes (weather suitable) are recommended. The bracing or splinting of the toes is not going to alter the way that your bunion develops as time passes. Unless you have other problems with the shape that your foot has, custom-made shoes aren’t always helpful with bunion pain, too. The treatment for bunions is surgical at the point that you’re not satisfied with any shoes, and it is causing pain with your everyday routine. Bunion surgery is not an option just to enhance the aesthetics of the feet due to the inherent risks associated with any procedure. The benefit that could be gained from the procedure must exceed the risk.
