Do female mice smell? - Kylon Powell
Rachel Davis
Yes, female mice do smell. Despite their tiny dimensions, female mice create enough waste that they can quickly make their environment smelly. Because they’re social animals species, mice thrive in small groups or pairs that naturally will result in more feces, and more particularly, urine, the most significant reason for the smells that come emanating from the waste of female mice. A clean and well-maintained mouse cage should not emit a strongly scented smell. The slight odor of animals is normal for any mammal. If the smell is becoming uncomfortable, it’s time to switch to a different routine.

Replace the cage with a larger one. The more space you have means there is more room for bedding. Additionally, more bedding materials will help absorb more urine and the smell. Your pets, of course, will be grateful for the extra space. Rat cages are ideal if all of your animals are old enough in the sense that you have the cage’s bars placed close enough that female mice are unable to get their heads stuck in.
Step 2
Take out soiled bedding each day at least twice per day when necessary, using plastic spoons or tongs. The female mice could be using one part of the cage for toilet use and this makes the task simple. If not, you can simply take out the bedding that has become wet with urine. Feces aren’t a big deal in the daily chore of cleaning.
Step 3
Set up a hamster or rat litter tray. Sometimes, it is possible to train mice to use the toilet at least in part. The tray should be placed at an area in the corners of your cage that they tend to use the most to the toilet. Add the bedding that is heavily soiled over an area of distinct texture. Clean the tray every day by replacing just a small portion of the litter that is soiled each time. There is no guarantee that the female mice will leave all their mess within the tray, but it could help in day-to-day cleaning. The small amount of food you leave in the tray will remind the mice of their place to do their business once cleaning it.
