They may be able to recognize and remember their owners because snakes have an excellent sense of smell.

Because snakes lack both memory and sight, they are unable to recognize their owner’s face. Because they hunt for prey in the wild, they must rely on their sense of smell to help them locate prey.

They lack the brain capacity to rival other mammal species in intelligence. Snakes have no concept of personal identity. While snakes are able to distinguish between humans based on their scents, they are not able to “remember” these humans in terms of identification.
