Even though your snake may not be in love with you, he or she can still feel pleasure when you provide them with the necessities of life—food, water, places to hide (and feel safe), a warm spot to digest (and a cool spot to thermoregulate!), etc.
Do snakes know affection?
Although snakes do not have the mental capacity to show affection, they are more accepting of their owners who feed and care for them, research shows. When they don’t act threatened and let you handle them, they’re showing their acceptance of your authority.
Are snakes loyal?
Even though snakes can’t form strong attachments to their owners, that doesn’t make them bad pets. A strong bond doesn’t need to be highly prized. Having a snake around the house can be a lot of fun. As long as they are fed regularly and have a suitable enclosure, snakes are happy to be cared for by humans.
