What is a recess for a fireplace?

Structured opening (sometimes referred to as builder’s opening) formed in a wall or chimney breast from which a chimney rises and where a hearth is located.

Can wall mounted fireplaces be recessed?

What’s going on here? A partially recessed wall-mounted electric fireplace can be built into an existing wall. In the case of an electric fireplace that can be fully recessed, most of the unit can be inserted into the wall and the fireplace will still function properly.

Can you recess a gas fireplace?

The installation of a traditional fireplace, which uses gas as its fuel, can run into the thousands of dollars. A flush-mounted recessed fireplace can be installed on your wall. Aside from the cost of mounting, the recessed fireplace owner is only responsible for purchasing fuel canisters for their appliance.

Can you plaster inside a fireplace?

It is not permitted to use any kind of plasterboard inside the fireplace recess, even the pink fire-resistant plasterboard, as this is not officially non-combustible (plasterboard okay on chimney breast though).
