What is a glass gasket?

To keep out drafts and water, you’ll need to install a window gasket, which is also known as a window seal or seal gasket, in your window frame. The opening sash is weather-sealed to the window frame with window gaskets or seal replacements.

How do you measure a fireplace gasket?

Pry out that section of old gasket with flat head screwdriver. A ruler or tape measure is all that is needed to get an accurate measurement of the channel’s width. Measure the distance between the gasket and the edge of the channel (in inches). 3/8″ – 7/8″ – 3/8″ – 7/8″ or 1″ thick are the most common thicknesses.

Why does the glass on my gas fire go black?

When starting a fire and when the fire is smoldering, the glass doors should be fully open. During the final stages of a fire, the glass doors should be closed to reduce the amount of air that enters the fireplace chimney.
