Even you get all of your feet on the roller skate, you still need to learn how to balance yourself. If you are serious about learning this new hobby, it will take time and effort. You shouldn’t expect that perfect day when you can start skating and practice all the basic skills at once.

Furthermore, if you want to become a great roller skater and compete with the best, you will need to spend a lot of time on it.

Standing up:

  • Bench rolling – this is the first step in learning how to roller skate. You start by sitting down on a bench and moving your feet back and forth against each other as if “drumming”. This helps you get familiar with balancing yourself.
  • Falling down – you don’t need to wait until you fall from the bench in order to learn how to stay on the roller skate when falling over. It will happen whether it’s a moment after you stand up or a few days later. The important thing is that if you want to practice this sport seriously, you shouldn’t be ashamed of falling a little.
  • Splat rolling – this is a faster version of the bench roll. You support your foot on a wall and then help it to move repeatedly forward and backward until you get used to balancing yourself for a longer time.
  • Blades – once you learn how to stay up, you can attach the blades to your skates. Place them closer to the front of your skate and then tighten it a little bit, so that you can easily move back and forth between each foot.

In conclusion, it’s necessary to practice each of these exercises in order to get a feeling for how to move on the roller skate. Though it can take up to a week. Once you feel comfortable with balancing, you can try going forward and backward. Make sure that your feet stay consistent by staying straight when moving back or forth. It may take you a while before you manage to do it properly.
