How long does it take to replace an engine mount?
Andrew Davis
7 hours is enough to replace an engine mount but this can depend on a couple of things. Here are some of the things that determine the time it takes to replace an engine mount.
Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing Aro... Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing AroundThis process can be time-consuming and you need to be patient. But it depends on the type of engine mount and also where it is located. When we were changing our engine mount we took it as a challenge; as if we had won a battle against any engine problems that might come up as a result. That was not the case, however, but it did take us some time. We had to disconnect the upper part of the airbox so that we could get to it easily. What takes up most of your time is removing bolts, nuts, and screws while disconnecting wiring harnesses and other components. The lower engine mount on my car was very easy to get to because there was no upper section that has to be removed in order for me to get access. However, I found that the new engine mount needed a bit more adjusting than usual, after placing it in its place. This can take up another hour or two depending on how much time you spend tightening bolts and screws.
The entire process took us about ten hours of work but this does not include buying parts or going back to a mechanic so he/she can finish it for you. Replacing an engine mount should not take that long; the only time we feel like doing this is when you are too busy and do not have enough time to spare, or if you need your car fixed as soon as possible because of some emergency.
Replacing an engine mount is something that can be done even with little or zero experience in automobile mechanics. You should always use two people while doing any kind of work on your car; one person to stay inside and operate the controls and other tools while another operates from outside (in case there is a problem). This might make the process go slower but will also ensure that nothing bad happens while the other person does his/her job.
