How To Change Brake Pads On Honda Ridgeline

Writer Rachel Davis

Similar to the brake pads on your rear the Honda Ridgeline front brake pads are always degrading at the same rate on the left and right sides of your vehicle. Contrary to the rear brake pads the majority of front brake pads wear out faster because of the nature of rear-wheel drive vehicles. It is suggested to check your brakes each time you bring the Honda Ridgeline in for service However, you must look up the Honda Ridgeline maintenance guide in the owner’s manual for additional details on recommended front brake inspections and replacements. Be aware that the wear and tear of Honda Ridgeline which includes front brake pads are dependent depending on the driving habits you follow.

These are the steps to follow in order to change your brake pads on the Honda Ridgeline.

  1. Place vehicle on level ground. Park the shifter. To stop the vehicle from rolling, place wheel chocks at the front and back of your front wheels.
  2. Pull the hood release lever under the dashboard to open the hood. The cap on the brake fluid reservoir should be removed.
  3. Take out the lug nuts. Do not take them out yet.
  4. Place the car jack at one of the jacking points and lift the car until the wheels can turn freely.
  5. Before removing the wheels, secure the car using the jack stands.
  6. Take the wheel and lug nuts out of the vehicle.
  7. Place the flat screwdriver between the brake pads and the caliper. Next, pull the screwdriver toward you. This will allow the piston to pull back, allowing for new brake pads to be installed. You can skip this step and the brake pads won’t fit if you don’t use a spreader.
  8. Remove the 12mm bolts holding down the caliper.
  9. Remove the brake pads by lifting the caliper.
  10. Use the wire brush to clean the bracket.
  11. Examine for differences in the size of old and new pads.
  12. Reinstall all parts that you have removed in the opposite direction.
  13. Install the wheel. Turn the wheel and lower it.
  14. Once inside the vehicle When you are inside, push the brake pedal 3 to 5 times or until you feel the pedal is firm.
  15. When you have entered the vehicle Once inside, press the brake pedal 3 to 5 times or until you feel the pedal is snug. The engine should be started. The parking brake must be pressed between 2 and 3 times.
