Are you supposed to clean out bird houses?
Once a year is a good rule of thumb when it comes to cleaning your birdhouses. After each brood has fledged, nesting boxes can be cleaned out for the first time.

Use a weak bleach solution to thoroughly clean the house (one part chlorine bleach to nine parts warm water). Make sure to clean out all of the crevices and holes, including the one at the entrance, as well as the ones for drainage and ventilation.
