Before discussing the steps of installation of the battery, we will first discuss how to remove the old battery.

How to remove Old Battery

Removal of old battery

The first step is to switch off the engine and all appliances on board. Remove the negative cable, and then remove the positive cable also.

The old battery can be sold at a scrap rate.

Clean the battery case

The next step is to clean the battery case it is preferred that you mark the cables so you won’t find any difficulty in the installation process.

Installation of New Battery

Purchase of new Battery

The first step is to purchase a new battery. You have to make sure you buy a marine battery. It has been seen that people buy an auto battery but it is not advisable. The marine batteries are designed according to the weather conditions. These batteries are resistant to vibrations, higher draining, and wave pounding.

Strapping Process

The next step is the strapping of the battery. Every ship has a separate compartment for batteries, place the battery over it and strap it tightly.

Connecting Batteries

Now comes the main process of how to connect the batteries. As I already advised you to mark the cables after the removal of the old battery I hope you follow my instructions. Connect black cable in the black port, connect the positive cable in the positive port. Please make sure that cables are properly attached to the ports.

There are two ways you can attach the secondary battery with the primary battery.

Parallel battery installation

In the parallel installation, we connect the positive to positive and negative to negative batteries together. Connect both battery’s black ports together.

Parallel installation increases the battery life as well as the capacity.

Series Installation

In series, installation connects negative of one battery to positive of the other battery. In the series installation, one battery black pot is connected to another battery positive port.

The series installation increases the battery’s voltage as well as keeps the capacity of the battery consistent.
