How can I help a bird with a bleeding wing?

An immediate response is required due to the possibility of significant blood loss in a short time. Apply styptic powder, corn starch, or flour to the broken end of the feather to help stop the bleeding. Consult an avian veterinarian if the bleeding does not stop within 3-5 minutes.

What happens if a bird is bleeding?

Using sterile gauze and a pinch of cornstarch, apply pressure to the follicle of the blood feather until the bleeding stops after you’ve plucked it from the bird. It will be a few days before a new blood feather grows to replace the one that had to be removed.
