For weeks, a snake with a parasitic infection will show signs of malnutrition and a lack of bowel movements. That’s exactly what happened to the second snake. This is a serious condition that could lead to the snake’s death if not treated.
How do you treat an impaction snake?
To help the reptile pass the substance that it has consumed, common treatments include placing it in a lukewarm bath and gently rubbing the area under the impaction. Gently rub the reptile’s belly with the first two fingers of your hand until it defecates, then remove the first two fingers and repeat the process.
How long does it take for a snake to poop?
Your snake should be able to finish digesting a meal in 6-8 days under ideal circumstances, and then defecate shortly thereafter. If your snake hasn’t defecated in two weeks after eating, it’s time to step in and help.
