How to make gel fuel for ventless fireplaces

When burnt gel fuel is an alcohol-based substance that produces no harmful smoke or unpleasant odor. Its major purpose is in fireplaces, but it may also be used in catering and other interior events where odorless flames are beneficial. Gel fuel is a relatively new material, and the potential it holds fascinates me, especially because it’s so simple to create. I’ll teach you how to create gel fuel safely at home in this article.

One of the finest aspects of gel fuel is its ease of use.

Gel fuel, like wax candles, maybe mass-produced in huge quantities for individuals who do not wish to spend money. Its flammable feature is the isopropyl alcohol component (commonly known as rubbing alcohol), which costs around $1 per quart—making it a highly cost-effective option.

Calcium Acetate: A Step-by-Step Guide

You’ll need to create calcium acetate from chalk and white vinegar before you can start making gel fuel. Ensure that the chalk you purchase is composed of calcium carbonate. Different types of chalk aren’t going to work.

Ingredients:

• White vinegar

• Chalk (must be calcium carbonate kind)

Combine four parts white vinegar to one part chalk in a mixing bowl. I used 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/8 cup chalk in this example. Bake the mixture for about three hours at 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ingredients:

• Calcium acetate (made in the preceding stage)

• Isopropyl alcohol (99%)

Directions:

For every one component of calcium acetate, combine nine parts of isopropyl alcohol. When you add the alcohol once you’ve metered it out, the solution will immediately begin to gel on its own.

Why isn’t my gasoline-burning properly?

If the entire chemical contains less than 90% alcohol, it will not burn well. You may need to add water to your calcium acetate, depending on whether you bought it or manufactured it yourself. If you have dry calcium acetate, mix two parts water with three parts calcium acetate and stir until the calcium acetate is completely dissolved. However, as long as the finished product contains 90% rubbing alcohol, it should burn well. And that’s it! You’ve got your own gel fuel!
