How to manually close a BMW convertible top?
David Wilson
There may come a time when you need to manually close your BMW convertible top. Perhaps the motor is no longer working, or maybe you just want to do it yourself for the fun of it. Whatever the reason, here’s how to do it:
1. Open the convertible top all the way. There should be a lever on the driver’s side that you can pull to do this.
2. Locate the two clips near the front of the top. There should be a small hole in each clip where you can insert a screwdriver.
3. Insert the screwdriver into the hole and pry the clip open. Do this for both clips.
4. The front part of the top should now be able to fall backward. Fold it back behind the rear seats.
5. Locate the two release levers on each side of your trunk. Pull them up and place them in the position closest to you
6. Go back to the front where you opened the front part of the convertible top. Gently fold it back over on itself, ensuring that you keep all four sides even. You will be able to see the rear metal bar that sticks out of your car on each side – make sure both are sticking straight up and not leaning one way or another.
7. With the metal bar pointing straight up, you will now be able to fit the front part of your convertible top under them and place it in position. Make sure that both sides are even and do not stick out. There should only be a little bit of sticking-out at this point in the folding process
8. Release each side by pulling up on the levers.
9. Your top is now closed and you can store it in your garage or wherever else you’d like to place it. If you’d like, you may place the convertible top cover back on for protection purposes.
