Make sure that your flame is off:

Make sure that the fireplace is completely cool and is safe before you begin to take off the doors.

Doors fully open:

Lift the doors of the fireplace to the fullest extent until they are completely folded.

Find the tension clips:

These tension clips (or spring brackets) are the holes on the corners of the fireplace. This is where the door pins for the fireplace are put in.

Make sure you push up on the top clip:

If the doors are folded, and opened, press down on the tension clip at the top. Using a screwdriver can be achieved. This will decrease tension on your door and permit those pins on the doors to slip out.

Take the top door pin off of the clip:

When you are pushing upwards the tension clip, pull the top door pin away and then gently move away from the fireplace.

Remove bottom door pin:

When the top door pin is detached from the clip tension you will be able to easily take off the bottom pin.

Remove the frame:

If the doors of your fireplace were connected to an existing frame, you’ll need to take it off before installing new doors. After you’ve removed the doors by using a screwdriver or drill, you can remove the screws that hold your frame with the fireplace. You can then take the frame off.

Removal of additional components:

Sometimes, you’ll have to take off the old elements of your Heatilator fireplace to ensure that it is a good installation for your new doors. This is usual and should not be taken as a reason for worry. Be aware that the metal frame of your fireplace is attached to the unit and can’t be taken off. Only the frame and doors are able to be removed safely.
