How to set bmw seat memory?

Writer John Campbell

BMW cars have a variety of options, luxury features, and electronic accessories that make your drive more convenient. There are a couple of things that require special attention before you start using them or they can cause problems in the future. One such feature is Seat Memory System with a learning function. In this service guide, we will introduce you to how to use the seat memory system on BMW E60 models with NBT navigation radio as an additional example. This system remembers the adjustment position for 4 seats so drivers and passengers don’t need to change settings every time they enter the car. Here’s how it works:
For each seat, there is a knob under the steering column covering two press buttons on both sides of the seat and a memory switch.

Here is how to set the seat memory:

Turn off all switches and remove the key from the ignition. Make sure all doors are closed. Press and hold the memory button on the driver’s side for more than 3 seconds. All four lights next to each knob will flash once indicating that the system is ready to learn mode (driver’s seat is in default position). Adjust seats according to your preferences, make sure you feel comfortable and headrests are adjusted properly. Once you’re finished press and hold the memory button again for more than 3 seconds. This time only two lights will flash – this means the learning process has started (each position of the control knobs and positions of the seatbelts will be recorded by the system).

Once all four lights flash it means the learning process has been completed (driver’s seat and passenger’s seat memorized). You can now remove the key from the ignition and test the position by turning on switches. Driver’s seat should move to your preferred position, press the memory button once more if you want to confirm that other seats are in their memorized positions.

This way you can set any two (2) or three (3) seats according to your preferences or for comfort for each driver that will use the car. Remember that when you change the adjustment of any one particular knob all others will be moved too so if you prefer not to adjust them just leave them where they were before.
