Is basa fish safe to eat?

Writer Gabriel Cooper

Imported basa fish is generally considered safe to eat, however there but some people may be allergic to the fish. Eating too much of it can also cause an upset stomach. Basa fish is safe and does not require allergy testing for those who wish to consume it. It is recommended that people who suffer from fish allergies eat the fish only occasionally, and only in small portions.

Fish allergies are most often caused by exposure to water that contains parasites or allergens produced by certain species of fish. There is some debate about whether basa fish falls into this category since these species are not technically “fish” at all, but rather a part of the catfish family.

Most species of basa are genetically engineered to grow larger and faster than natural species. Basa is considered safe to eat by people who are allergic to all species of tuna, but you should check with your doctor before eating it. It’s also important that you cook any fish fillets or steaks you eat thoroughly so that the parasites present in raw fish are killed.

Basa, a type of catfish, has a mild flavor and a light texture similar to sole or tilapia. It’s often sold as swai or pangasius. Basa is an excellent source of protein and contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are good for your heart.

For the vast majority of people, seafood allergies are not life-threatening. If you’re allergic to one type of fish, it’s likely that you’ll have a reaction only when you eat that specific kind of fish or other seafood. You might get mild symptoms such as itching around your mouth and eyes, swelling of the lips, hives on your skin, or an upset stomach.

Chances are you’ll be able to eat other types of seafood without any problems. This is because most people with fish allergies are allergic to proteins in the fish that remain even after cooking. If these proteins aren’t present in the cooked fish, you’re unlikely to have a reaction after eating it.

If you have a severe, life-threatening seafood allergy, you need to carry an injection of epinephrine with you at all times. You should also carry a bracelet or necklace that tells others about your condition in case you go into anaphylactic shock and are unable to speak for yourself.
