Outside, tung oil can be used to treat wood. By applying this oil to the wood, it will be protected from debris, the sun, wind, and moisture. Treated wood can last for decades if reapplied at least once a year.

 How long does tung oil remain effective?

Tung Oil should be reapplied every six months, just as lacquer is reapplied every six months. Tung does not evaporate and, in my experience, does not degrade rapidly.
