Can I paint a brick fireplace black?

If you plan to paint the firebox, be sure to use heat-resistant paint. Rustoleum satin black high heat resistant paint was used. The black we chose for the fireplace is a deeper shade of black than the paint we used on the brick, but I like the added depth and dimension it gives the room.

What kind of paint do you use on a brick fireplace?

The Bricks Need a New Color.Indoor latex paint rated to handle temperatures generated by the fireplace (generally around 200°F) should be used. It can be flat, semigloss, or gloss. Remember that this paint is only suitable for the exterior of a brick fireplace, not the interior firebox.

Do you have to prime a brick fireplace before painting?

No matter how often you don’t burn fires in your fireplace, the flue leaves it more exposed to moisture than your interior walls. Priming the brick with two coats of masonry primer is absolutely necessary before painting.
