With the right lighting, plants can look great on almost any surface in your home, including the fireplace and mantel, which makes them an excellent decorative element to have around.

Can I put plants near fireplace?

Sparks could ignite the plants if they are placed near a fireplace that is currently burning. It is not safe to put flammable items such as plants near a fireplace, even if it has a screen or glass enclosure to keep sparks from flying out of the fire.

How do you decorate a fireplace mantel?

Hang a mirror in the center and sconces on either side of the fireplace mantel for a simple decorating idea. Place a large vase in front of the mirror to serve as an anchor for the mantel, and then add smaller vases, candlesticks, and other decorative items to complete the look. Pick up on the colors and textures that are already present in the space.

Can ferns grow indoors?

Most indoor ferns require high humidity levels to thrive. Even in areas where heating is provided by a furnace, which can dry out the indoor air, this can be a difficult task. A pebble tray (right) is a great way to keep ferns moist and away from radiators.
