Can you use plaster around a fireplace?
In the vicinity of the fire opening, approximately 3m2 (32 ft2) of plaster should be applied. The material should not be thicker than 6mm at its thickest point.
Are plaster fire surrounds good?
Plaster Fire Surround continues to be popular because of its adaptability and ability to be used in a variety of fireplace sizes. Wood or coal fireplaces can be used with it. As a result, you don’t have to limit yourself to using your fireplace in the winter.
Can you paint a plaster fire surround?
Both new and previously painted plaster fireplace surrounds can be painted with latex or alkyd paint, just as you can with primers. When the plaster has recently been replaced, alkyd paint is usually preferable. Flat or eggshell finishes are best for your fireplace because plaster has a rough surface.
How do you make plaster heat resistant?
VITCAS® HEAT RESISTANT FILLER can be used to fill in any minor cracks that may have formed in the surface. If a second coat of plaster is required for any reason, the material can be re-coated with PVA and reskimped. When the surface is completely dry, it forms a heat-resistant surface that can be painted over.
