Elephants are mostly found in forests, grasslands, and savannas. They also live in mountains, deserts, and swamps. Their native region is South Asia, Southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa. Elephants have large trunks, long wide ears, columnar legs, and huge heads. They are brownish to grey in color. 

They communicate with each other through very low-frequency sound, with low pitch, which is not in range to the human ear. A newborn baby elephant can stand up to 3ft tall and its weight is 268 pounds. The lifespan of wild elephants is 56 years and 17 years of elephants living in captivity. They are herbivores. They are strict vegetarians. Baby elephants eat leaves, fruits, bark, grass, and roots.

Baby elephants begin to eat plants when they are four months old. Baby elephants can eat small plants, bushes, bamboo, shrubs, herbs, flowers, grass, tree barks, twigs, fruits, and roots. Baby elephants can also eat salt and other minerals.

During the dry season, they prefer to eat tree browse and sedges more while in the wet season, they eat forbs and grass. Baby elephants can eat lettuce, cabbage, bananas, pumpkins, sugarcane, apples, and oranges. Baby elephants can even eat banana and carrot cake. Baby elephants can eat chocolate and like its taste. Baby elephants may eat people sometimes. Baby elephants can also eat their mother’s feces. Elephants living in zoos can also eat hay and pellets.

What baby elephants do not eat?

Baby elephants do not like the smell of lemons, nor do they eat them. Also, Baby elephants don’t eat peanuts.

Some elephants can also eat meat ( kangaroo is their favorite), but baby elephants do not eat meat.
