Water turtles are a simple freshwater species. They belong to reptiles order Testudines. A baby turtle is known as a hatchling. They have a bony or cartilaginous shell rising from ribs to the top back. If a baby turtle survives till adulthood it may easily live for 2 to 3 decades like the average record turtle’s lifespan is 30 years. But some sea turtles that require 40 to 50 years to get mature, can live up to 60 to 70 years.

There is no average size of turtles, it always varies from individual to individual. Sea turtles are4.5 to 5.25 feet in length and weigh around 600 to 1500 lbs. Turtles usually bite when they feel threatened, while turtles bite more often as compared to the turtles in captivity. Their predators may include large sharks, killer whales, and tiger sharks.

They are native to Southeast, North America, and Asia. They have adapted to remarkable habitats such as ponds, rivers, streams, seas, and oceans. They hibernate and save a lot of energy and oxygen from the pond water. There’s an interesting fact about turtles that they can easily utilize the stored energy and oxygen when needed without using their lungs.
