Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing Aro... Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing AroundBald-faced Hornets are gregarious insects that dwell in big groups in large colonies. The queen bee, drones, and worker bees are all assigned specialized jobs to assist in the maintenance of the colony. The primary job of the male drones is to be ready to impregnate a receptive queen when the opportunity arises. Workers are responsible for performing all of the various duties required to operate and maintain the nest.
Due to their tendency to visit flowers in the late summer to collect nectar, bald-faced hornets are referred to as minor pollinators.
Bald-faced hornets are said to be beneficial insects because they are responsible for the pollination of particular flowers and plants and because they are predatory insects that prey on other insects. Bald faced hornet workers feed the developing larvae of their colony by preying on a huge number of nuisance insects and bringing them back to the colony for the larvae to feed on. The adult Bald faced hornets eat a liquid diet consisting primarily of sweet, sugary liquids such as nectar and juice.
To alert other bees that a honey bee colony is being attacked, the hornet excretes a scent marker on the hive, which is then used to identify the colony as its target.
