What Do Capuchin Monkeys Eat?

Writer Rachel Davis

Due to the fact that capuchin monkeys are omnivores, they will consume a diverse diet that includes fruits and flowers as well as insects and nuts as well as some small vertebrates, and even small birds. They eat fruits and vegetables such as apples, carrots, and oranges in the zoo, as well as a special chow known as Monkey Chow, which provides additional nourishment.

At the zoo, you may be able to observe the capuchins using their opposable thumbs to grasp their food, which is identical to human thumbs! During their natural habitat, these little monkeys consume a diverse diet that includes a wide variety of fruits and vegetables as well as nectar from flowers, nuts, and buds as well as eggs from frogs, lizards, and birds. Some people may even consume shellfish. Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing Around

Animals and Insects

Capuchin monkeys eat both vegetation and meat, depending on their diet. It is possible that capuchin monkeys will eat plant parts such as fruit, seeds, leaves, and flowers if the time of year is appropriate. Birds, oysters, lizards, frogs, and a variety of other animals are among their prey. Capuchin monkeys have been observed consuming the flesh of another monkey species.

Capuchin monkeys will eat Fruit, insects, leaves, and tiny birds on a regular basis. We assume that they may also prey on small mammals because they are very adept at grabbing frogs and cracking nuts. Capuchin monkeys also eat meat, rabbits, snails, birds, insects, and human food.

Plants and Fruits

In addition to fruits, nuts, seeds, insects, bird eggs, and even small vertebrates such as lizards and mice, capuchins consume a wide variety of other foods as well. Some capuchin monkeys have been observed to consume as many as 95 different plant kinds at a time. When capuchins live near water, they will eat shellfish and frogs as well as other animals.

It is known that they consume the fruit of a type of palm tree called Cumare (Astrocaryum chambira), which has a tough husk that makes it difficult to crack open. In order to consume that fruit, the capuchin mostly consumes Guadua (Bambusa guadua), which is prepared in one of two ways, depending on the freshness of the fruit. They also eat bananas, mushrooms, avocados, and chocolate.

What they don’t eat?

Capuchin monkeys are carnivores and can eat almost anything for their survival.
