Carpet Beetles, as the name suggests, is something that permeates carpets. They are tiny little Beetles belonging to the order Dermestid. They are similar to cloth moths and usually feed on fur, wool, silk, feathers, and leather items. These are most commonly found in their Larvae form, and when the last larval molt is formed, they tend to climb up the flat surfaces.

What Carpet Beetles Look Like?

The carpet beetle is a common tiny insect in homes whose damage is most often mistaken for that of a cloth moth. Their species size ranges from 1mm to 4mm in length when they are adults. Adult Carpet Beetles have an oval-shaped body with two antennae and six legs. They also have rigid bodies and wings below their shells. They are found in various coloration patterns. Most species are found in yellow, black, and white coloration patterns, but few also exhibit orange coloration patterns.

The adults are not dangerous, whereas the Larvae stage can be hazardous since they feed on carpet fabrics. The larvae of Carpet Beetles have the shape of fuzzy worms. Interestingly, the size of larvae is greater than adults having 4mm to 8mm in length. Larvae also have bands on their bodies and have long sticky hairs. They are typically found in light brown and black colors. Moreover, they have three distinct hairs located at the abdomen.

Larvae of Carpet Beetles usually attack the fabrics since they can digest the animal protein in fabric named Keratin. Moreover, the infestations of Carpet Beetles are vulnerable to materials since they are challenging to detect.
