What Do Garden Toads Eat?
Ethan Hayes
Toads are exclusively carnivorous, which means they eat only meat. Beetles, slugs, crickets, flies, ants, and other invertebrates are among the invertebrates that they prey on. Some toad species, particularly the larger ones, will even devour small rodents and snakes. Toads will devour everything they can get their lips around and swallow, and this includes their own skin. Natural pest control doesn’t get much better than having a robust toad population on your land when it comes to natural pest management.

Toads eat a wide variety of living species as part of their diet. Whatever small critter manages to sneak past the patiently waiting, expertly disguised frog is usually fair prey for the predator.
When it comes to some of the larger prey on this list, it is only natural that the small and smaller copies of these species would prey on them… It will eat whatever it can fit into its mouth.
As a result, the meals on this list are proportional to the size of the toad. When it comes to eating, small toads and frogs will consume smaller insects and bugs, whereas larger ones can consume both of these as well as larger prey. Garden toads also eat Bats, Birds, Bees, Beetles, Bugs, Cane, toads, Centipedes, Crickets, Flies, Frogs, Grasshoppers, small Lizards, Locusts, Mealworms, Mice, Minnows, Rolly, pollies, Slugs, Snails Spiders, Weevils, and Worms.
As you can see, toads aren’t picky about what they eat and will eat just about everything. AND you can see why having them in your yard and garden is a good idea!
That does mean that they may prey on some of your beneficial bugs, but we believe that they do more good than harm in the long run.
