What Guinea Pig Mites Look Like?
Guinea pig mites are very small in size and resemble different fleas and parasites. It is difficult to recognize a guinea pig mite with a naked eye. The skin will be red, scalp, and crust due to the attack of guinea pig mites. They are not zoonotic but remain dormant for many years.
The ear guinea pig mites cause grimier or reddish-brown ears due to the same attack. They are round to oval in shape with two front legs having a ‘bell-shaped’ sucker. They are covered in excreted part of the ear. Their lifespan is commonly 21 days.
The fur mites are commonly 0.3-0.6 mm in size with long non-borrowing shapes. They are small egg-like structures found in the fur of the guinea pigs. They attach to the posterior part of the guinea pigs. The lifespan of the guinea pig mites is about weeks and relies entirely on the host. The normal shape of guinea pig mites is an egg or oval one with eight legs. Also, the feed of guinea pig mites is the keratin layer of skin.
