Musk turtles are classified as omnivorous organisms because they eat both plants and meat for their survival. Musk turtles can eat seeds, algae, and invertebrates, but they mostly consume aquatic animals. Musk turtles are native to Southeastern Canada and the Eastern United States. These are small turtles and are also known as common musk turtles. They are found in lakes, marshes, ponds, swamps, and in slow-moving streams and rivers.

A musk turtle can live for 40-60 years. The average length of a musk turtle is 2-4.5 inch but they can grow up to 5 inches in length. The average size of a musk turtle is about 1-2 pounds. 

Aquatic animals

Musk turtles eat different aquatic animals for their nutrition. Musk turtles can eat fish, a variety of small snails, crayfish, mollusks, and aquatic insects such as damselfly nymphs. Musk turtles can eat guppies, earthworms, crickets, goldfish, frogs, and blood worms. Musk turtles also eat shrimps like brine shrimp, live shrimps and these are very good for musk turtle health. Also, Musk turtles do eat chicken and cooked prawns. 

Musk turtles also feed on locusts, mealworms, meat, raw prawns, and tuna fish. Musk turtles are able to eat daphnia, wax worms, and morio worms.

In the wild, musk turtles can eat snails, crayfish, tadpoles, aquatic insects, freshwater mussels, aquatic vegetation, and carrions. They eat small insects like worms, crickets, slugs when they move out of water.

Musk turtles feed twice per day, and they eat a lot. In captivity, musk turtles can eat cut-up shrimp and fish, crickets, bloodworms, and earthworms. They also eat turtle food in captivity.

Musk turtles can eat different plants such as seaweed, algae. Musk turtles also eat vegetables and fruits. Musk turtles can eat zucchini, carrots, and squash. Additionally, Musk turtles love to eat apples, melons, and berries like blueberries. They also eat apples in small pieces and corn. Musk turtles can eat peas, bananas, papaya, guava, lettuce, broccoli, and kale. Musk turtles love to eat bacon. Musk turtles also eat cucumber, duckweed, kale, strawberries, spinach, salmon, and tomatoes.

What musk turtles don’t eat

Musk turtles don’t eat each other. They are very friendly with other turtles and don’t eat them. They don’t like dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, or milk.
