Skink lizards feed on a variety of insects and bugs. They can eat caterpillars of moths and butterflies. They also eat spiders, termites, and ticks. They can eat millipedes, copepods, isopods, beetles, and their larvae. They also consume snails and also prey on small vertebrates like small lizards, small fishes, frogs, and young mice. Skink lizards can eat grasshoppers and crickets in large quantities.
Skinks eat their food after every two to three days. They also drink water after one to two days.
At night, skinks prefer to live on the trees, and they consume leaves at night. They don’t eat any invertebrates or vertebrates at night.
Plants and vegetation
About 40% to 60% of a skink diet contains fruits, plants, and vegetables. Skink lizards eat leafy green vegetables like spinach, lettuce, cabbage, celery, cucumber, tomatoes, and potatoes. Skink lizards also eat turnip greens, collard greens, carrots, mustard greens, peas, squash, dandelion leaves, flowers, green beans, broccoli, and kale.
Skink lizards eat fruits such as apples, peaches, bananas, grapes, berries, and many others.
