Where do geese sleep at night?
Gabriel Cooper
Geese migrate to the Arctic each autumn and return to their breeding grounds in the spring. During winter, geese tend to sleep at night on fields, lakes, ponds, and marshes that have soft soil that sinks into with their weight and is easy for them to dig into with their front feet. The softer the ground, the more comfortable and secure they feel while they’re sleeping. They can sleep while standing up or laying on their sides or bellies. If it gets very cold outside, they curl around their internal organs which contains very important biological processes that must be kept warm. In warmer temperatures when there is no snow, geese will actually lay on top of each other for warmth.

Geese do roost in trees, however, they do not build nests as birds do. They may perch close to each other while they rest at night though. Geese are known to sleep on land but also spend a portion of their time swimming. Geese will return to the same nesting place each year if possible.
How do you find a goose nest?
Geese nests can be found either on the ground or in trees. Geese that nest on the ground are usually found in marshy areas with an abundance of reeds, cattails, sedges, and bushes. They also tend to build nests in high traffic areas because they are less vulnerable to predators. The best time to find a goose nest is early spring when the geese first return to their nesting territory.
