Seals sleep in the water. The sleek, streamlined shape of their bodies allows them to glide easily through the water, making sleeping easy for these incredible creatures and keeping them safe from predators.
Sea lions and elephant seals sleep on land. In contrast, harp seals, hooded seals, and ringed seals spend their time at sea.

Seals adapt to their environment by changing the color of their skin. Also, seals have an insulating layer of fat called blubber to keep them warm in the water.

Are seals friendly?

SEALS are friendly. They are also wild and curious. They like to play and explore. But they are very shy, too! They usually come out of the water at night when it’s dark. Some seals live in large groups called PODS, but others live alone or with a parent and its pup.

How old can a seal get?

In the wild, a grey seal can live 36 years or longer, but in captivity they have been known to live for over 40 years. The Mediterranean monk seal is thought to be the shortest-lived pinniped species with a maximum age of about 20 years.

Do seals bite humans?

Seals are friendly and playful. They love to play and show off to each other. Only in self-defense will they bite a human. They are curious and readily approach divers, especially if there is food in their hands. Juvenile seals can be very boisterous and sometimes nip as part of their play behavior.

How intelligent are seals?

Seals are among the most intelligent and inquisitive creatures in the animal kingdom. They are also capable of communicating with one another using a range of sounds that include squeaks and whistles to name a few.

How long can seals hold their breath?

The seals can hold it breathe for a period of one and half an hour while in water.
