Why do I feel worse after acupuncture?

Writer Robert King

It’s okay to feel worse after a few sessions of acupuncture, it only means the body is getting used to the needles and more of it is needed for a better result. What happens in acupuncture therapy is that fine hair-like needles are inserted into different parts of your skin, and sometimes more than one needle may be inserted at a time. Then they will be moved slightly just enough to trigger a change in blood flow and make a change in the energy flow of the body. The process is called needling.

Ever wondered what happens when you get a massage? Well, massage therapy also triggers the same mechanism as acupuncture only that the process is different from acupuncture which involves needles being inserted into your skin while massage just applies pressure to different parts of your skin using my hands or a special instrument.

I have been going to acupuncture therapy for over ten years now and the reason why I started is that my grandmother was suffering from diabetes and she could not walk at all because of its complications. Some doctors told her that there is no way out of the disease except a leg amputation but she decided to give it a try by going to an acupuncture specialist. To my greatest surprise, she started getting better and better each day until she could walk again without any help.

I was shocked because I have never seen anyone recover from the disease that quickly with no medication or exercise involved. Over time I saw her transforming into a healthy young woman who can now go about her daily activities without any problem of pain or disability. I also saw that she was not the only one who has benefited from acupuncture therapy, my siblings and other members in my family were able to come out clean of illnesses that seemed incurable before they started having acupuncture sessions.
